Vecima Announces Two New Platform Products at SCTE Cable Tec Expo

September 22, 2014

VICTORIA – (September 22, 2014) – Vecima Networks Inc. (TSX:VCM), an experienced designer and manufacturer of innovative technology in the broadband equipment market, is pleased to announce the introduction of two new platforms at the SCTE Cable-Tec Expo held in Denver, Colorado from September 22 to 25, 2014. The TC600E and TransQAM version of the Terrace QAM will be exhibited by Vecima during the annual gathering of cable industry thought leaders.

The TC600E provides a new all digital commercial video solution to cable operators allowing for the provision of bulk video services within multiple dwelling units and other commercial properties. This new platform marks the latest addition to the Terrace family of products that includes the TC600, TC1000, and TC1200. The Terrace family of products have been widely deployed by leading cable operators as an essential tool for business services when converting to an all-digital network.

The TC600E platform adds support for MPEG-4 and high definition inputs while also increasing the number of input demodulators to thirty six, a more than four times increase in input channel tuning capacity. These added features are attractive to cable operators utilizing MPEG-4 video or who are migrating to more efficient broadcast lineups that limit or completely remove standard definition from the network. Current TC600 units can be factory upgraded to offer these impressive new capabilities.

The TransQAM version of the Terrace QAM platform will allow the hospitality HD solution to support MPEG-4 video input which operators are now using to maximize network capacity versus the traditional and less efficient MPEG-2 format. TransQAM meanwhile will provide integrated MPEG-4 to MPEG-2 transcoding of up to sixty four programs per platform. MPEG-2 video remains important for hospitality because many hotels still have legacy flat panel televisions which can only decode MPEG-2. This presents considerable economic benefit to cable operators and their customers when the need to consider wholescale upgrades of televisions within hotels is eliminated. The TransQAM will afford cable operators the ability to receive both standard and high definition channels that are MPEG-4 encoded for universal distribution within a hospitality environment. Through a subsequent software upgrade, Vecima plans to enable the TransQAM to support SCTE-27 subtitling which is highly desirable in markets such as Latin America that view content in a non-native language. Existing Terrace QAM units can be upgraded to this new powerful version with an easy to deploy upgrade kit.

Using the TC600E or TransQAM, cable operators can continue to support and enhance their commercial video businesses while freeing up valuable network capacity for additional revenue generating services.

About Vecima Networks
